Fiddle Leaf Fig

Fiddle Leaf Fig

Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree (Ficus lyrata) is a stunning plant with huge green leaves and has a following of houseplant fans. Despite its popularity, it's certainly not the easiest houseplant to look after, but its visual impact in a space which it has acclimated into is unmatched when given proper conditioning and care.

    Light

Fiddle Leaf Figs should be placed in front of a window that will receive direct morning or afternoon light. Ideally, a window with a mostly unobstructed clear view of the sky. As it grows bigger,it may require more light.

    Soil

Fiddle leaf figs need well draining potting media that's high in organic matter. A peat-based soil with some perlite works great. This is standard fare for most indoor potting mixes with good reason. A basic recipe would be about 2/3 peat to 1/3 perlite.

    Watering

Fiddle Leaf Figs need to be thoroughly watered about once a week. Depending on the size of the plant — and therefore the size of the roots — you’ll want to adjust the amount you water. A good rule of thumb is to wait until the top 2 - 3 inches of the soil is dry, and then give the plant a thorough watering. Ensure that the pot has adequate drainage holes to allow excess water to drip out.

    Fertilizer

You should fertilize your plant every time you water. Fiddle leaf figs need an NPK ratio of 3:1:2. This formula works the best for these plants and allows the plant to grow more. Nitrogen promotes the growth of new leaves, and phosphorus helps with root growth. You can also dilute a 10:10:10 fertilizer and use it as a replacement.
